A tension control bolt is a bolt, nut, and washer assembly that is used primarily in steel frame building. Additionally referred to as a TC bolt, they have a domed head rather than a hex head due to the fact that they are placed via a spline on the other end. This spline is installed with a specialized power wrench. Twist-off bolts and LeJeune bolts are alternate terms for this fastener configuration.
Tension control bolts are supplied by the manufacturer completely lubricated. They are pre-assembled and ready to be installed using a shear wrench. This wrench is equipped with both an inner and an outer socket. The inner socket turns the spline in the clockwise direction, whereas the outer socket rotates the nut in the anticlockwise direction. When the proper tension is reached, the spline snaps off
